Join me on a visit to the Gagosian’s Grosvenor Hill gallery in London to see the Friends and Relations exhibition featuring works by Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, Frank Auerbach and Michael Andrews.
This exhibition takes inspiration from the photograph taken by John Deakin that captures the four artists at the Wheeler's restaurant in Soho in 1963. Timothy Behrens, the fifth person in the picture, is only represented in one of Freud’s portraits at this show.
Portraiture lies at the heart of this exhibition.
Curated by Richard Calvocoressi, this exhibition visualises the connection and differences between the artists’ practices, their influence on one another and also showcases portraits of themselves, each other, as well as their friends, family members, intimate relationships and offspring.
17 November 2022 – 28 January 2023 at Gagosian, Grosvenor Hill, London
