STORYLINE:
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier met with US Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist, in Washington DC on Tuesday.
The German foreign minister arrived in the US on Monday for a two-day visit, to discuss international developments and the strengthening of trans-Atlantic relations.
Steinmeier is due to meet his US counterpart Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice later on Tuesday.
The two are likely to discuss Iran, the Israeli and Palestinian elections and the situations in Belarus and the Balkans, the Foreign Ministry said.
The foreign minister's trip comes a month before a planned visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is scheduled to meet with US President George W. Bush in May.
