The Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) is set to undergo a thorough review in response to an increase in claims from individuals who have experienced disabilities as a result of receiving a vaccine, as well as the families of those who have tragically lost their lives.
Health Secretary Victoria Atkins has instructed her department officials to examine potential reforms for the payment system, which has been struggling to handle the surge in claims following the pandemic.
Official statistics indicate that the number of claims escalated to 4,008 in the previous year, a significant rise from 480 in 2022, 26 in 2020, and 27 in 2019.
Additionally, data up until April 26 of this year reveals that a total of 11,022 claims have been submitted to the scheme in relation to Covid-19 vaccinations.
Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by Together Declaration co-founder Alan Miller to discuss.
