Afra Al Dhaheri’s work is rooted in her experiences growing up in Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE—a place of recent and rapid change. Working across various media including sculpture, drawing, painting, installation, photography, and printmaking, she explores questions of time and adaptation, rigor and fragility. For Al Dhaheri, each body of work is a new phase, with every shift taken from her unique vocabulary of references. In her hands, repetition acts as a method for prolonging time, and a tool to more profoundly experience each stage of making.
