This infrared video taken by Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality inspectors on Aug. 16, 2018, shows a steady flow of gas streaming out of a riser pipe connected to the landfill's underground leachate collection system. Inspectors measured hydrogen sulfide at greater than 20 parts per million in the air near the riser pipe, and warned landfill operators that the gas was well above levels that could explode or catch fire.
