Hip-hop is a musical genre characterized by a rhythm accompanied by its musical expression rap and the artistic culture that surrounds it created in New York in the South Bronx in the early 1970s.

Hip-hop culture has 5 disciplines: Rap (or MCing), DJing, Break dancing (or b-boying), Graffiti, Beatboxing. Terminology
The creation of the term "hip-hop" is often attributed to Keith Cowboy, rapper of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. However, Lovebug Starski, Keith Cowboy, and DJ Hollywood used the term when the music was known as rap disco. The founder of the Universal Zulu Nation Afrika Bambaataa is considered to be the one who attributed the term to the subculture to which the music belongs; although it is a pejorative term applied to this type of music. The first use of the term in print media is in a Village Voice article by Steven Hager, who subsequently wrote a book on hip-hop in 1984. Etymologically, according to Ailane, "hip-hop" is the combination from the English term hip which means "to be in the wind, to be connected" in the speech of the street, and of hop whose meaning can be translated by jumping or dancing. For some pioneers like Grand Master Caz, the word Hip Hop would come from the word "Hippie" because at its origin this cultural movement was intended to channel frustrations and violence towards something positive.

Hip-hop music and culture began in the 1970s, when block parties became popular in New York City, especially among young African Americans and Caribbean people in the Bronx. Block parties feature DJs, who have performed popular musical genres, especially funk and soul. With a positive reception, the DJs begin to isolate the percussive breaks of the popular songs. This technique derives from Jamaican dub music and is widely popularized in New York by immigrants from Jamaica and the Caribbean, such as DJ Kool Herc, nicknamed the "founding father of hip-hop".

Turntable techniques - such as scratching (attributed to Grand Wizzard Theodore), mixing and / or matching rhythms, and juggling rhythms - are developing. In its early days, hip-hop music became a "voice" or an "emergency exit" for young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods undermined daily by social, economic and political discrimination20.
