Meet Kyoppe, an 18-year-old Japanese subculture fashion designer who graduated from a famous fashion high school in Tokyo.
Kyoppe is a popular personality in the Harajuku street fashion scene in Tokyo, known for her love of subculture styles including gothic, punk, emo, yami kawaii, menhera, and lolita. She started visiting Harajuku at a young age and is one of the rare Harajuku Girls who attended a special high school for fashion design students. Many Japanese street style personalities go to fashion college, but few study fashion during their high school years. Kyoppe graduated from Vantan Design Institute's high school fashion program in 2022 and has embarked on a career as a designer, founding her own subculture fashion brand as well as designing costumes for idols and other performers.
In this interview, Kyoppe talks about how her name changed when she moved to Tokyo, what inspires her designs, her experiences going to a specialized fashion high school, the process of designing costumes for underground Japanese idols, her future plans and dreams, and more. Some of her recent design work is also featured in the video.
Kyoppe does not speak fluent English, but she said that she uses Google Translate - so please contact her if you're interested in her costume design work for any music or other performance projects.
Kyoppe is active on social media, as well as having her own website.
