November 05, 2023 - On top of The Contemporary Hotel at Disney World holding a Feiyutech gimbal with a Sony RX100 M7 in scene mode for fireworks in the left hand and the new DJI Osmo Pockey 3 in the right hand. All hand-held. Did not have a proper gimbal follow mode set on the Sony side.. had to move my right hand to occasionally use the joystick on the Feiyuteck scorp mini gimbal. So you will see some movement in the images.
Sony - fireworks scene mode - began filming at 1X zoom (no zoom), then slightly zoomed in using optical zoom at some point. 4K 24fps.
On DJI Osmo Pocket 3 side, it was 1X (no digital zoom) with the wide-angle lens.. and I used PRO Manual settings to record a darker image in D-log M at 4K-30fps. With ISO 100, EV -1.3 and shutter 1/60. It came out darker than expected but I am not used to seeing D-log M.
In the beginning of this video is a still image captured from each raw video.. what you see is what you get in the camera.
In the actual videos which I display at the top and bottom of the screen to differentiate between cameras, I cropped and upscaled the crop to 4K using Topaz Video AI and used the Gaia model for enhancement.
Taking the output of Topaz for both cameras I placed them on top and bottom of the screen. I could not find a good way to have comparison images at full width, showing half-height images.. so I reduced each to 2/3rds of their normal size. There will be black bars on the left and right for that reason.
I also color-graded both camera videos (do not really know what I am doing there but gave it my best try).
The audio was pulled from an old Disney video of the Happily Ever After soundtrack. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has some nice audio but the wind was pretty regular up on the roof as well as the crowd noise and I did not use the DJI Mic that came in the content creator kit. If I wasn't going to have to hand-hold both cameras at once I would have paid more attention to sound.
My take is that...
1) I should NOT have used the wide-angle filter on the Pocket 3. And my settings may have been a bit dark.
2) The fireworks scene setting on teh Sony is not that good. If I learn how to go complete manual settings with Sony's odd menus and controls I think I can do better. The image is too hot and the bursts of the fireworks themselves seem overexposed.. too much bloom blowing out the center of the bursts.
3) I often use the digital zoom of 2X on my DJI Mini 3 pro drone and think the result is pretty good. I think I should have used the Pocket 3's digital zoom to 2X on the 4K 30 or even 4K 60 setting. Next time I am in the park I'll try that. As it is, the Osmo Pocket 3 image made the park seem farther away than it was to the naked eye. The wide-angle lens made it that much worse.
If you care to comment, if you had these two cameras but could only use one to record fireworks, which would you use?
