Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his call for international recognition of Northern Cyprus during a visit to the region on Monday, in his first official trip two weeks after his re-election.
Erdogan met with Ersin Tatar, the leader of the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which is recognised solely by Turkey.
Repeated UN-led talks have thus far failed to reunite the majority Greek-speaking Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish-speaking northern statelet.
