In May 1981, François Mitterrand is elected President of the French Republic. The French secret service is not very happy about the Socialists coming to power especially since there are now Communist ministers in the government.
These are the Cold War years, and even some of France's loyal allies, such as the United States, are starting to wonder how reliable France and her new Socialist-Communist government really are.
It's up to Mitterrand to handle this diplomatic crisis with the United States.
He does not yet know it, but it is his counter-espionage service that will provide the solution.
