Learn to SHARE(S) – How Hams may use their HF radio skills in supporting critical FEMA and other government and NGO communications outside of the ham bands.
Listen to Steve Watermen, K4CJX, explain the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) SHAred RESources (SHARES) HF radio program. This service, which was spawned by a Presidential Executive Order, is outside of the ham bands and is exclusive to the SHARES program. SHARES is used extensively by government agencies at all levels (including CALOES) and NGO’s such as the Red Cross. Hams form the support for this communication system for the nation’s critical EMCOM infrastructure.
Steve Waterman is a member of the FEMA’s Regional Emergency Communications Coordination Working Groups (RECCWG) for FEMA Regions 4, 5 and 10. He serves as the chair of the FEMA Region 4 RECCWG AuxComm subcommittee. He also serves as the Emergency Services Coordinator (Winlink) for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, is on the Williamson County, TN Reserves, and is the Winlink Administrator for all services, including amateur radio and CISA SHARES.
