To be human is to be connected. We are social species. We evolved in communities and in dialogue with nature and people around us. But in this globalised society, trapped in an economic system that is based on endless economic growth, we are made to feel cut off and alone. We have become totally dis-connected.
Jennifer shares a personal story about her relationship with her father and draws a parallel to the relationship we as society have with our current economic system. Jennifer pledges that in order to heal the planet, we need to heal ourselves.
She takes you on a journey from dis-connection to re-connection and uses the doughnut economy as an example to find her way back to live in balance. By localising, by bringing the economy home, we restore our connections.
Amsterdam is the first city in the world that has officially embraced the doughnut economy on a city level. As the co-founder and community manager of the Amsterdam Doughnut Coalition (a local, grassroots doughnut action network), she gives illustrative examples on how the doughnut economy can be put into transformative action on a local level. Both distributive and regenerative by design, a doughnut economy enables communities to transition from harmful, extractive industries into an environmentally sustainable and just future. She puts focus on the power of community- and movement-making and underlines the ripple effects that are already under way in other cities around the world. Finally, she addresses the big elephant in the room – the individual disconnection and gives 3 suggestions to embark on this journey of re-connection. I truly believe in the power of connecting people and building communities for change. Bringing the do-ers, creators, the people that don't wait for others to act, together and telling shared stories are crucial in finding solutions for the biggest problems of today. My passion for enhancing the relationship between nature and people has translated into my work as a community manager at several impact networks. Over the years I have applied my skills and knowledge of community building, network forming, communication and movement in organisations, cities and businesses by creating and setting up online and offline networks for meaningful impact.
As the community manager of the Amsterdam Doughnut Coalition, I have made it my mission to take the people of the region of Amsterdam on a journey to become a socially just and environmentally safe community within the boundaries of our planet. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
