"THE EUREKA STOCKADE SONG" Official Music Video by Edwin Morris.
Lyrics,
There's nothing more beautiful
More precious than gold
Than to see Godly freedom
Enjoyed by young and old
But it must be won
By the likes of you and I
For without responsibility
We'll watch our freedom die
Peter Lalor was our hero
Back in Eighteen Fifty Four
His men stood up for justice
like we must do, but more
They were the Aussie diggers
Hoping to find some gold
That they might feed their families
And keep them from the cold
But whether they found gold
Or only tasted dust
The cost of the miners licence
Caused many to go bust
The diggers were all threatened
At the point of a gun
To pay up out of poverty
That crippling monthly sum
But Peter spoke out boldly
"Men don't be afraid
We'll stand up for our rights
At the Eureka Stockade
We'll fly our own flag
The flag of The Southern Cross
It's time for us to hold our ground
No matter what the cost"
In the end they lost the fight
But the battle was surely won
Cos' they forced the government
To be fair to everyone
So here's to the blessed cross
That the miners fought before
And here's to the courage
Of a man called Peter Lalor
There's nothing more beautiful
More precious than gold
Than to see Godly freedom
Enjoyed by young and old
But it must be won
By the likes of you and I
For without responsibility
We'll watch our freedom die
There's nothing more beautiful
More precious than gold
Than to see Godly freedom
Enjoyed by young and old
But it must be won
By the likes of you and I
For without responsibility
We'll watch our freedom die
