바른정당 통합파 8명, 탈당계 제출…오늘 한국당 복당
Eight lawmakers from the minor conservative Bareun Party will defect to the main opposition Liberty Korea Party today.
They are scheduled to hold a press conference this morning,... along with the Liberty Korea Party chair Hong Joon-pyo -- where they will likely call for uniting the conservative bloc.
On Monday,.. nine lawmakers announced their decision to leave the Bareun Party.
Joo Ho-young,... currently the Bareun Party's floor leader and acting chair,... will join them after the party's leadership convention next Monday.
The mass defection means the main opposition party will hold 116 seats in the 299 seat National Assembly.
The Bareun Party will have eleven seats,... and lose its status as a negotiating bloc,... which requires a minimum of 20 seats.
The exodus comes just ten months since the minor party was launched,... after splintering from the Liberty Korea Party after the power abuse scandal that tainted the conservative bloc's image.
