Carving on a snowboard has become popular again, and that is great! Companies like Korua, Jones and Stranda have really helped with the celebration of the turn over the last decade. Still very few riders - and I'm including shop employees as well as companies in this - do really understand what makes a good carving board. At the end of the day you can carve clean turns on any given board that has a sidecut... but some design aspects really ramp up edge grip and overall handling on edge. We're also ways away from understanding that there is no one right length for a given rider. So companies generally shy away from offering longer boards - which obviously have more grip due to the longer effective edge!
Stranda from Sweden simply don't care about this. Their dedicated softboot carving boards measure anything from 170 to 200cm....
Let's take a look at the Cheater, my weapon of choice.
