Today makes it two years since I started my thru-hike from the Canada/Montana border to the New Mexico/Mexico border on the Continental Divide Trail. Two years later, and I still miss hiking on this insanely beautiful and wild trail. I even miss it making me constantly fear for my life 😂. The whole trail in general is just almost completely exposed, which is awesome because you get to see breathtaking views that constantly change, but you also are being subjected to the unforgiving brutality of the Continental Divide. So much was learned and so much character was built hiking this trail. There were so many days on the CDT where my heart would beat so hard that I thought it was going to explode out of my chest from having no where to hide high up on fully exposed mountains during thunderstorms. I’ve never been so humbled by wind until I hiked the CDT. I have also never been so cold that I actually thought I might not wake up the next day until I lived on this trail. Throughout this adventure I got to eat breakfast with a coyote, fall asleep to elk bugling, watch a grizzly bear run away from us, be graced by the presence of wild horses, and be startled at night by a million green eyes that belonged to an agitated herd of cattle that I thought might stampede us. I got to cross paths with amazing new people and randomly enough, people I had happened to cross paths with on the AT. I have had my faith restored in humanity by complete strangers that would go out of their way to give us a ride to town, offer us food when we were starving, and give us cold beer when our spirits were low. The CDT is the ultimate adventure of a lifetime and I cannot believe it has been two years since I took my first steps on this trail. I miss it and the lifestyle every single day. More than anything I can’t wait to be back out among the wild things, where I truly belong ❤️.
