A Zulu protest rally over a government ban on their traditional
weapons degenerated into chaos on Saturday (4/5) with at least six
people, including three policemen, wounded by gunfire.
The demonstration, backed by Zulu leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi's
conservative Inkatha Freedom Party, was called after the African
National Congress-led government banned the carrying of
traditional Zulu weapons in public several weeks ago.
