I recently spent a morning in Los Angeles with Magnus Walker and filmed our conversation together with a tour of his very special Porsche collection, plus his 20,000 sg ft Arts District warehouse.
This is part one in which we discuss the Porsche sub-culture, particularly modded, restomod and hot rod 911s, and how enthusiasm for them amongst owners on this side of the pond as well as stateside has now pushed air-cooled prices ever higher. I ask Magnus why he thinks the 'old guard' are now more accepting of 'outlaw' cars. Is it no more 'them and us'?
He also tells me, somewhat convincingly, that his passion for collecting Stuttgart's finest has never been about the money. So, what IS his motivation?
And we take a look at his daily driver. A choice that may surprise you.
The biggest surprise in this episode though? Magnus says he would NOT want to buy that 930 Turbo from the 1977 London Motor Show that originally inspired his love of the marque. But why?
Part two follows soon. In future episodes we chat about his opinion on Singer, his collaborations with Nike, Pininfarina and Hot Wheels and I probe his business career and ask him 'Are you compelling proof that there really is such a thing as the American dream?'.
