Tahjana was born in Belize with a rare abnormality of her oropharynx, causing feeding and breathing difficulties. Unable to be treated by local healthcare providers, her condition worsened, leading to weight loss and breathing struggles. Tahjana's mother sought help from World Pediatric Project (WPP), who then involved Nemours Children's Health. Dr. Beth O’Donnell and Neonatal Nurse Practioner, Katie Preedy's involvement in work with the World Pediatric Program in Belize organized Tahjana's safe transfer to Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware. Dr. Nicole Aaronson performed a life-saving surgical procedure on Tahjana less than 24 hours after her arrival. Tahjana's successful surgery at Nemours has given her a chance at a healthy, thriving future.
