Arahar/ Toor/ Pigeon pea is a perenial legume rich in protien. It is consumed as a dal/lentil soup throughout india in various avatars. This preparation is a pure veg/ Jain iteration made in Bengali style using delicate spices, tomato, ginger and tempered with corriander leaves. This acts as a tasty and nutritious alterbative to the masur and moong dals which are prepared regularly in Bengali kitchens ro be had with steamed rice. Ingredients -
Arhar dal/toor dal - 1 cup
Mustard oil - 1 tsp
Ghee - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Bay leaf - 1
Dry red chilli -1
Hing - 1/4 th tsp
Chopped green chillies - 1 tbsp
Chopped coriander leaves - handful of
Chopped tomato - 1 tomato
Ginger paste - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/4 th tsp
Sugar - 1 tsp
Salt as per taste
