As part of our 2023 compact SUV comparison test, we got to spend a lot of time with the 2023 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD, the highest-trim gas-only CR-V available for 2023. Senior Research Editor Damon Bell and Road Test Editor Brian Normile take you through the ins and outs of the CR-V, detailing things we like and things we dislike about this version of Honda’s bestselling vehicle.
That’s right, the CR-V outsells both the Civic and Accord cars, and there’s a lot to like about the redesigned 2023 model. The redesign updates the interior and gives occupants plenty of room regardless of seat, and there’s plenty of cargo space, too. The driving experience is solid if otherwise unremarkable, as well. Unfortunately, its new technology already feels a bit dated — even newer Hondas like the Accord have been updated even further. The EX-L trim is also missing some features found in similarly priced competitors, with those reserved for the CR-V’s highest trim, the hybrid-only Sport Touring.
If you’re looking for a compact SUV, the CR-V remains a solid choice, but know that competitors may offer more features or more modern interior technology.
