The Branddirektor Westphal is a fire-fighting vessel of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA). The vessel is operated by Flotte Hamburg, a subsidiary of the HPA. It is the largest fireboat deployed in the Port of Hamburg to date.The ship is named after Johannes Westphal, who was put in charge of Hamburg's professional fire department by the British military government in August 1945. The fireboat is at the disposal of the Hamburg Fire Department, which also provides the crew. The ship is kept ready for use at all times. It can also be used for inspection trips and other tasks.The ship of the type "Löschboot LB 40" ordered in October 2016 was built under construction number 7030 at the Fassmer shipyard in Berne/Motzen. The keel laying took place on April 26, 2017, and the stacking stroke on May 24, 2018. The ship was christened in Hamburg on November 26, 2018. The godmother was Eva Maria Tschentscher, the wife of Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The construction cost of the ship was approximately 16 million euros.
