I had to memorize the polyatomic ions for my chem 101 class, so I wrote this little song to help me on the test. Basically I knew the anything ending in -ite or -ate i know are the elements with oxygen in it, I was just worried about the subscripts which is why for some of them I only say 3&4. I basically go from greatest charge to least which is why i only say the charges on a few, it's because I know they are all grouped together so they are the same charge. The singing isn't the best, but I was pretty proud of my self for the creativity!
WORDS:
Lets get down to business with ammonium NH4 Positive its the only one.
Nitrite and nitrate are 2 and 3 and they're both negative.
If i pass this quiz, I will live!
Next comes the Chlorine's ClO 2 3 and 4 don't forget they're negative just like the ones before.
So are hydroxide, cyanide, and permangante OH, CN, MnO4
Bisolfate is HSo4
Dihydrogen phosphate, h2Po4, dicarbonate is HCO3
Accetate is the longest C2H3O2
Now its time to learn the ones that are minus two
Carbonate, Co3 -2
Sulfite and (sul)fate are 3 and 4 (respectively)
Chromate is CrO4 Dichromate is Cr2O7
Now we're almost through we've got three to go.
Peroxide has two atoms and their both O (O2)
Hydrogen phosphate is the last one and it's HPO4
Oh, and phosphate is PO4, three minus!!!
