Not long ago, I had the honor to keynote the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce HR Leadership Summit. Before going on stage, I got the opportunity to hear the acceptance speech of the 2023 Olgetree Deakins HR Leader of the Year, Colleen Dutton.
She was an amazing speaker who shared all about her professional journey and the lessons she learned along the way.
Colleen said when she would go to her engineer father with problems, he would tell her, "If you can’t raise the bridge, lower the water."
This piece of wisdom stood out to me and brought me back to a story I once heard about James Dyson and the evolution of vacuum bags.
And let’s be honest, a full vacuum cleaner bag was such a nuisance to deal with back in the 90s. From having dust fly all over your freshly vacuumed space to having to purchase these extra (and necessary) parts, I think we can all agree that we are glad they are a thing of the past!
So tune into this week’s Weekly Wisdom, where we’ll talk about how all problems suck (but none so much as the ones involving vacuum cleaner bags), as well as 4 steps to solving big problems!
