Des Moines police are now investigating a Sunday shooting that started as a "dispute" as the city's first homicide of 2023.
Police first discovered an 18-year-old male with gunshot injuries at approximately 1:03 p.m. at 3720 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway. He was critically injured and taken to the hospital, where police say he later died.
At 1:07 p.m., police were dispatched to Broadlawns Medical Center, where they found another injured person involved in the shooting. Police believe that person transported themselves to the hospital.
Another person with gunshot injuries was then located at the scene. Of the two adult men injured, one remains hospitalized in serious condition, and the other was treated and released.
No names have been released yet.
Police believe an argument led to the shooting, with at least one person firing in self defense. Multiple firearms were discovered at the scene.
