Sometimes it’s just plain hard work using a hook knife to carve the bowl in a spoon - especially when it’s a really tough dry bit of hardwood. That’s when you need to use a gouge! The gouge can also be used in green wood instead of a hook knife.
In this video, Greg Miller takes you through several methods for using the gouge. He also demonstrates the use of a Spoon Scraper for making those spoon bowls beautiful even, smith and symmetrical.
The Joy of Wood’s Etsy Shop (thejoyofwoodstore) has available spoon blanks, gouges, spoon scrapers, hook knives and Sloyd knives, just go name a few of the growing list of goodies!
