A lifeguard in Oahu, Hawaii, came to the rescue of a swimmer in distress on January 8, battling the rough sea to bring the woman to safety.
Footage by Ingo Rademacher shows the rescue, after the woman got caught in a rip current. Freddie Booth, the Ocean Safety lifeguard on patrol, can be seen wasting no time in entering the water.
“We had some pretty large surf, probably 8 to 10 foot,” Ocean Safety Lieutenant Kerry Atwood told Hawaii News Now.
Such high surf in that area “is extremely dangerous,” he said. "We don’t have a stationary lifeguard tower there so we do rely on patrols.”
