Even though it’s supposed to take 10 years to get a black belt in jiu-jitsu, teenagers keep on winning the ADCC Trials, usually considered some of the toughest no-gi grappling tournaments in the world.
Kaynan Duarte, Kade Ruotolo, Nicky Ryan, Cole Abate and Elisabeth Clay are just some of a few names to have won ADCC Trials while in their teens.
In the last two months, you can add two more names to that list: Dorian Olivarez, 17, who won the -66 kg division at the North American East Coast Trials, and Jozef Chen, 19, who won the first European Trials at -77kg.
Not all of them have been training since they could walk; Jozef only started training in 2018. A dual national of Germany and Taiwan, Jozef is mostly based out of Shanghai, but is a regular traveller and spends extended periods of time training in Austin, Texas with the B-Team.
This video was shot at the Al Leone training camp in Bali, Indonesia.
