Today was a crazy day. I set out to dig a single American Elm sapling but ended up pulling out a massive clump style pre-bonsai sapling with 3 incredible trunks!
In this video I show you my method of extracting a tree from nature using basic tools and then transplanting it to an open air pot to recover on its way to becoming a beautiful future bonsai tree.
The pot I use in this video is an aquatic plant basket which can be found at Lowe's or anywhere pond supplies are sold.
Many years ago, the American Elm tree was all but decimated in the United States due to Dutch Elm Disease. Now, generations later, the mighty elm is making a comeback. Here at the Barefoot Bonsai Ranch, our goal is to aid in the return of this majestic native tree. To that aim, we focus on education in gardening and horticulture to encourage future generations to care for their native habitat and to continue the rewarding work of growing great things while also growing closer God's beautiful creation.
