We’ve made it into another year. As we reflect on the past year, 2021, we have some time to reflect on some of the past twelve months turbulent and joyous moments, some of the highlight journeys and more boring ones, but perhaps, most importantly some of the best-balanced experiences. This brings me onto my long-term wrap driving the new Honda Fit, my festive season long-termer.
A replacement of Honda’s extremely popular compact city slicking Jazz model, the Fit retains Honda’s quest for building a compact city car that’s much more than just another compact vehicle. The catchphrase “beauty in motion” is the best way, to sum up, the use of clever Japanese space origami with premium solidity.
So, what’s on offer in short?

TRANSMISSION
Type: Continuously variable transmission (CVT)
DRIVETRAIN
Type: Front-wheel drive
PERFORMANCE

Fuel Consumption: 5.5l/100km (claimed), 6.8l (as tested over long term period)
Emissions: 132g/km
Standard features also include;
Bluetooth, auto on/off and adaptive headlamps, cruise control, HD instrument display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, rear backing-up camera, USB ports, fast charger, multifunction steering wheel controls, cloth upholstery, ABS, six airbags.
The Fit features a comprehensive list of standard features and has had around 4 weeks behind the wheel of this latest-generation model certainly gave me the time to appreciate its premium Japanese build attributes and simply impressive attention to detail.
Though some of the older generation Honda owners may find this new model a bit polarising in terms of its appearance, younger buyers will love its modern outlook and the way in which it offers impressive “almost SUV” interior space within its compact city slicking body.
I received a lot of attention and interest driving the Fit over the festive season both around the Cape Town city streets and when on some country getaways.
Highlights and Lowlights?
Pricing for the new model starts from R319,900 (Honda Fit 1.5 CVT Comfort) and goes up to R469,900 (Honda Fit 1.5 CVT Hybrid). Some feel this is a tad on the expensive lines, however, upon further analysis, I found the pricing to be very much in-line with its competition, and even further a value proposition when you consider its standard kit and premium offering.
Reliability and ownership have always been strong selling point for Honda, and this new model does not disappoint. The Honda Fit is sold with a 5-year/200 000km warranty, while the Hybrid model comes with an 8-year/200 000km warranty. A 4yr/80 000km service plan is also standard.
In Conclusion
With the start of 2022, my time with the Honda Fit was nearing its end. So what did many km’s and weeks tell me about the new Fit. Is it a vehicle which I would buy myself? One word, YES, absolutely.
The Fit is a premium Japanese built vehicle that will continue to burn Honda’s following of the ever-popular and practical Jazz in my opinion. It moves the segment on in terms of quality, technological sophistication and advancement all while appealing to a more youthful buyer. For me, the Fit represents the perfect blend of a compact city car with real-world practicalities and one which I can certainly recommend.
