Summary of the May 9, 2024 Weatherford College Board of Trustees Meeting

The Weatherford College Board of Trustees received a report on the sixth annual WC International Piano Competition from event organizer Dr. Hyeyoung Song at their May board meeting.
Song highlighted many reasons the competition has gained so much success including world-renowned judges, integrity and the college’s Steinway pianos. Over the past six years, the competition has earned a reputation as one of the best in the United States, and other competitions are now copying the format.
Duane Durrett, dean of fine arts, also spoke to the board about how the WCIPC can improve and continue to grow. Event organizers plan to increase their advertising efforts to reach even more prominent schools of music and to attract and grow a donor base, as most competitions of this type are donor supported.
More than 170 pianists representing 22 countries submitted video entries for this year’s competition. Nine finalists traveled to WC to perform before three renowned judges.

In other business, the board:
- Approved the minutes of the April 11 meeting.
- Approved the financial reports ending April 30.
- Approved a quote from Flair Data Systems for annual Cisco Meraki network equipment licensing and maintenance renewal.
- Received written reports from WC Wise County, academics and student services.
- Received a preliminary 2024-25 budget report.
- Approved the purchase of 1401 Sloan Street in Weatherford. The property will be used for additional parking.

In his President’s Report, Dr. Tod Allen Farmer:
- Recognized the first graduating class of cardiovascular sonography students.
- Recognized the 27 athletes recently named Academic All-Conference.
- Congratulated Dr. Hyeyoung Song, Fine Arts Dean Duane Durrett and everyone involved in the success of the 6th annual WC International Piano Competition.
- Announced the resignations of Nicole Elliott, information technology instructor, and Anna Scarborough, life sciences instructor.
- Announced the retirement of Rhonda Torres, education instructor and East Parker County liaison.
