Today, Cambridge police arrested several protesters who were blocking an MIT building they believe houses drone research that benefits the Israeli military. A day earlier, 130 protesters were arrested at UMass Amherst after school officials called in police to clear out the pro-Palestine encampment there for a second time. Reporter Tori Bedford has been covering the protests closely for GBH. She joined Saraya Wintersmith with the latest.
Many colleges and universities have called in police to crack down on the pro-Palestine encampments that have popped up on dozens of campuses across the U.S. in recent weeks. But the ACLU of Massachusetts argues that response "escalates tensions" and "creates unacceptable safety risks." The organization's executive director, Carol Rose, joined Saraya to explain, along with Tufts Professor Amahl Bishara, Robert Pape, a University of Chicago political science professor and the director of the Chicago Project on Security and Threats.
