In the midst of an affluent section of Center City sits five prominent museums, the Cathedral Basillica, the Ben Franklin Parkway, and the Swann Memorial Fountain. Every year people flock to the
Party on the Parkway" for the Welcome America Festivities and Fireworks. Sports Teams have ticker tape parades that lead up the Parkway to the Art Museum Steps, the same area hosts concerts and recently hosted Pope Francis.

But now, to walk through this neighborhood is to be confronted with those who have nothing. Homeless people in tents share scant resources, with even scarcer sanitation, exposed to the hottest July on record, a tropical storm, and COVID-19.

The Mayor and City Council did not address the issue early on, and doesn't appear to be on a path to helping the homeless and restoring the beauty and tranquility of the neighborhood.

This is a crisis, and sadly, it appears that the homeless are being used as pawns. If you live in Philadelphia, please contact your City Councilor and Mayor Kenney.
