Music/Poem
From the album An American Prayer –in Spanish: «An American Prayer» - is the ninth and last studio album by the band The Doors. In 1978, six years after the group broke up, the members who were still alive got together and recorded music to accompany Jim Morrison's poems, which had previously been recorded in a 1970 session.
The lyrics are semi-autobiographical, and at times prophetic, ranging from critiques of the time to visions of life after death.
The album received mixed reviews since its release and still divides critics widely. However, it achieved platinum certification in the United States due to its massive sales.
The album contains only two singles, "The Ghost Song" and a concert version of the classic Roadhouse Blues, previously unreleased. It was released in early 1979.
A FEAST OF FRIENDS / THE SEVERED GARDEN
Wow, I'm sick of doubt
Live in the light of certain
South
Cruel bindings.
The servants have the power
dog-men and their mean women
pulling poor blankets over
our sailors
(And where were you in our lean hour)
Milking your mustache
or grinding a flower?
I'm sick of dour faces
Staring at me from the TV
Tower, I want roses in
my garden bower; dig?
Royal babies, rubies
must now replace aborted
Strangers in the mud
These mutants, blood-meal
for the plant that's plowed.
They are waiting to take us into
the severed garden
Do you know how pale and wanton thrillfull
comes death on a strange hour
unannounced, unplanned for
like a scaring over-friendly guest you've
brought to bed
Death makes angels of us all
and gives us wings
where we had shoulders
smooth as raven's
claws
No more money, no more fancy dress
This other kingdom seems by far the best
until it's other jaw reveals incest
and loose obedience to a vegetable law.
I will not go
Prefer a Feast of Friends
To the Giant Family.

traído a tu cama.
No iré
Prefiero una Fiesta de Amigos
a una Familia Gigante
