Prem Mehra is a wealthy, kind-hearted, and generous man who lives in a palatial home with his wife, Laxmi, a daughter, and two sons, Vijay and Ravi. Dharamdas, a foe of Prem uses a gangster and an employee of Prem's to steal some priceless diamonds from his safe, and implicates Prem for the theft, thus usurps all his wealth. Prem and his family re-locate and take their loyal employee, Rahim along. Vijay gets a job as a news-reporter, while Ravi continues with his studies. Prem's daughter's marriage is on the rocks as he now cannot afford to pay the required dowry. Prem suffers a stroke and gets paralyzed. Vijay falls in love with his colleague Radha. However, just before the marriage Vijay dumps Radha and gets married to his boss Shraddha Devi's daughter, Naina, a wealthy heiress. What is the reason behind this sudden change of mind? Has poverty destroyed Prem's morals?
