Transistors are non-linear components, therefore we cannot apply our usual tools for circuit analysis like the superposition principle to transistor circuits. If we still want to use these principles we have linearise the non-linear components of our circuits, e.g. transistors. In this video we therefore show how to linearise a MOSFET around its operating point. By that we derive formulas and equations for the small-signal parameters of MOSFETs, transconductance gm and small-signal output impedance/resistance rDS forming the small-signal equivalent circuit.
