Lesson learned.... I have not harvested this system for over 4 months and I have also not been feeding it very much. As a result of this the worms have had to work and rework the existing material and it has become very fine and completely worked over castings. The entire system is actually ready to harvest !! the material that I pulled out is very moist...almost wet and it was very compacted as well. By forcing the worms to rework the material..it has become so fine that it acts like a sponge and retains a lot of moisture.....one of the benefits of castings in the garden...but it makes it difficult to harvest and sift while still in the bag. I pulled a little over 90 lbs out of the system and will put a good layer of fresh bedding and food on the top to pull all the worms to the top and then I will try to harvest the system again in a week or two....as I really need to get all the material out of the system.

Lesson learned is Yes you can wait too long to harvest...it doesn't hurt your castings...but it makes it much more difficult to harvest and sift.
