A Negro pedestrian last night became the states 6th traffic fatality of the HOLIDAY period. Charles McDaniel of Hurt was killed early last night as he walked along U-S Route 29 about one half mile south of Alta Vista. (start film) State Police identified the driver of the car that hit McDaniel as 35-year old Clyde Ray Carter of Rt 2, Forest.

Earlier, a 9-year old Baltimore girl, Charlene Louise Albright, was killed when the car in which she was riding was in a collision with another car on U-S Rt 11 about two miles east of the Radford City limits. State Police said the child was asleep in the back seat of a car driven by her father, Borden T. Albright. Her mother and a sister were also passengers in the car. The second car involved was operated by an Arkansas woman, Miss Willie H. Mathews. Police say the Mathews car skidded while rounding a curve and smacked into the Albright automobile. The accident occurred last yesterday morning. The child died instantly of a head injury.
