how to change oil on 2009 Yamaha raider engine.
total drain plug = 3
tools needed:
17mm socket with extension
17mm wrench (thin wall)
oil filer wrench (take out the oil filter)
3-crush washer 14mm for 3 of the drain bolts
motorcycle jack for safty
torque wrench
oil container for used oil
oil funnel for refilling the new oil
I use 5.2 quarts 20-50 Mobil 1 full synthetic with the knn oil 303 or 303c (chrome) filter from the local motorcycle shop.
procedure:
1, I made a custom ramp (with 2-2x8 wood) for the bike to go on for clearance becuase my bike is lowered.
2. open the 1 drain bolt (17mm) on the right side under the seat.
3. re tighten the bolt with crush washer with the torque wrench after oil is completely drained. (torque 31 ft-lbs)
4. motorcycle jack up the bike to access the other 2 drain bolt (17mm) on the left side.
5. Loosen the 2 bolts on the left side and the oil filter (oil filter wrench).
6. tighten the oil filter and the 2 drain bolts.
7. lower bike then fill with 3 quarts of oil first, start engine and let idle for 30 sec with the filler cap close, then turn off.
8. open the filler cap and pour 2 to 2.5 quarts more depends where is the level dip stick.
9. ready for a ride.
