Dr. Alastair Thompson on what to expect pre-, during, and post-surgery. Your specialist will set expectations, answer any questions you have, and will make sure that your breast is marked for surgery correctly. You will be under anesthesia during the surgery and topical anesthesia will be applied to reduce post-surgical pain. If you are getting a mastectomy, it is recommended that you do your breast reconstruction under the same anesthetic. Post-surgery, you should return to healthy eating, regular activities, and light exercise. Take only enough pain medication to reduce pain while staying active. Why Baylor College of Medicine? You will be treated by a highly skilled team of professionals that put you at the center of your care plan. Our goal is to get you back to living a happy and healthy life as soon as possible.
