Jan 24, 2021 Distance 8 miles
Pogue Creek Canyon. This was a very scenic 8 mile hike with giant rock formations, caves, scenic overlooks and creeks in Jamestown, TN. A must see!! The main trail we followed was a little over 6 miles, but there's tons of fun offshoots where you can walk to an overlook and then come back to the main trail, which is how we added the extra mileage.
We took our time, taking lots of pictures as we went and stopping to eat lunch in one of the caves, so in total this hike took us 5 hours to complete. The trails are very well maintained and easy to follow. Dogs are permitted, but we opted not to bring ours because there's some pretty challenging inclines to hike up, a couple of ladders to climb and some very narrow walkways. We rarely use trekking poles, but were so incredibly thankful we had them on this hike. I definitely would not recommend this loop for small children.
Bring plenty of water, snacks, dress in layers, wear good hiking shoes/boots and make sure you pay attention to how much daylight there is. We ended up hiking the last 2 miles in pitch darkness because it gets dark so early this time of year (between 4:30 - 5pm). Thankfully we were well prepared with flashlights and we enjoy hiking in the dark, but it might be scary for some. If you've never been hiking here, this is truly a must see!!
