EPA Science Flashback provides an historical glimpse into the research by scientists and engineers at the U.S. EPA to protect public health and the environment. The periodic videos are part of the Agency’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2020. Kevin Teichman, senior science advisor in EPA’s Office of Research and Development, describes how research has advanced understanding of the harmful effects of particulate matter -- an air pollutant regulated under the Clean Air Act. The work included a scientific assessment that led to a ban on smoking tobacco products in public spaces.
