Chord tones are the "secret" for playing lead guitar so that you are always landing on strong notes. Learn these triads and arpeggios all over the fretboard, and explore and study how the notes for each fit into the common approach of the minor pentatonic scale or blues scale from the 1 chord (A minor penta or A minor blues scale in this case).
