[ Ссылка ] - Calcified heart valves are a common form of heart disease that can lead to symptoms, risks, heart failure and life-threatening situations as cardiac function is compromised due to valvular defects (e.g. aortic stenosis).

In addition to unwanted cardiac conditions that result from calcified valves, patients are also concerned about the potential for calcium deposits to "break off" a diseased heart valves and cause a stroke.

To educate heart valve patients about calcified valves and stroke risk, we interviewed Dr. Marc Gerdisch, the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Gerdisch is a heart valve expert who has performed over 6,000 cardiac procedures and more than 4,000 heart valve repair and replacement operations.
