The Strat (formerly the Stratosphere) includes a 1,149 ft (350.2 m) observation tower, the tallest in the United States. It is also the second-tallest observation tower in the Western Hemisphere, surpassed only by the CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario. The top of the tower includes a revolving restaurant, lounges, observation decks, and several thrill rides.
Construction of the Stratosphere Tower began in February 1992. A fire of unknown origin occurred on the tower in August 1993, during construction.
At the time of this taping the shopping area on the second floor of the Strat is mostly closed off due to renovations. The property has low hotel rates but you are far from the other famous and popular properties and also far from Downtown Las Vegas. Your best best is to take the Deuce on Las Vegas Blvd to get around.
