Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell's family and friends, gathering for his funeral on Friday, poured tributes on the four-star general, calling him a friend and "one of the greatest leaders".
He died last month of complications from COVID-19 at the age of 84.
He was the first Black national security adviser and the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
But he will also be remembered for advocating for the US-led war against Iraq in 2003, which he said years later was a "blot on my record".
Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane reports from Washington, DC, the US.
