Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe provided an update Friday on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province discussed the government's ongoing response to the pandemic.
During the briefing, Yaffe said that as of 4 p.m. ET on April 16, the province had reported 564 new cases of COVID-19, bringing Ontario's total to 9,525 confirmed cases. The death toll has risen to 478 as 55 additional deaths due to the virus have been reported.
Yaffe also said that updated COVID-19 projections are expected to be released to the public next Monday, and that while the province is "not out of the woods" yet, Ontario is starting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus.
Friday’s report marks the highest single-day increase in both cases and deaths Ontario has seen since the coronavirus pandemic began.
