A former Metro Detention Center employee has been arrested and charged with concocting a plan to smuggle drugs into a New Mexico prison.
Detectives say the woman worked with inmates for nearly four months to get crack and marijuana into a New Mexico prison.
According to a court document obtained by Eyewitness News 4, a security unit at the southern New Mexico correctional facility in Las Cruces has been investigating 28-year-old Bryanna Elliott since August.
The prison tracked numerous phone calls between Elliott and Las Cruces inmate Davis Wilson.
According to the document, Elliott told police she would pick up the drugs, then pass them off to an unnamed corrections officer who would then smuggle them into the facility.
Elliott appeared via video in court today and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
While she has no previous criminal history, Elliott was once employed by the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County. For the last ten months, shes been a counselor for delinquent kids at Desert Hills of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Police hope Elliott's arrest will prove to be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to bringing down a network of drug smuggling at the prison.
A man familiar with running criminal schemes from behind bars is also mentioned in the police report. Investigators identify Andrew Miller as one of the suspected participants in the smuggling ring. Miller was convicted of setting up bogus businesses to steal money from people and companies.
