Hello again friends. This is a guitar cover of the Viridian Forest theme from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow OST. This is also my entry for the March 2016 contest on the r/VGCovers subreddit. The theme is any song from Pokemon RBY. When trying to choose what song to cover from RBY I was rummaging through the OST when I came across Viridian Forest. I felt that it was a pretty underrated song from this game, and I myself never really thought I would cover it. That was until I heard it again and thought that it would translate really well to a very heavy arrangement. It without a doubt worked perfectly for the style I was going for and the arrangement came very naturally.

This song is strange because it has a dark feel to it but at the same time the feeling is delivered through quick, punchy notes. Compared to something like Lavender Town which has very sustained and creepy notes. So I wanted to go for something that would both keep the dark feeling and then gradually transition into a lighter feel. If you pay close attention you can notice that over time the song moves further and further away from the really dark, creepy feeling that is set in the intro. Finally at the end it comes together with a big finish that feels very glorious and opposite of the tone that was set in the intro. So to summarize, I really enjoyed playing with the concept of conflicting feelings and starting in a dark place and coming out of the other side victorious. Yea it seems pretty silly and dumb but I feel it works for a song that plays in your first dark, creepy dungeon of the game.
