Dovedale is a valley in the Peak District of England notoriously famous for its picturesque stepping stones only half a mile from the car park. Dovedale is located in Staffordshire and Derbyshire, England. The river Dove, a 45 mile long stream, runs through the valley; there are also two caves known as the Dove holes. Thorpe Cloud is the highest hill in Dovedale, with an elevation of 287m, the hill lies between the villages of Thorpe and Ilam. In good weather and conditions, a double sunset can be seen against the Thorpe cloud from a nearby hill, Lin Dale. Some of the Peak District's most attractive villages, such as Longnor, Hartington, Alstonefield and Thorpe all lie close to Dovedale, and Ilam lies in the adjacent Manifold Valley. This National Trust site has over a million visitors a year.
